Review CCS Elements and Terminology

This topic helps you become more familiar with the CCS. It describes the interface in the CCS and explains the terminology we use to refer to sections and options in the CCS.

The CCS is divided into the three sections below.

  • Slide Explorer. This section is where you can create slides and organize them. For more information, see the Creating and Organizing Slides topic.
  • Slide Editor. This section is where you can create the content of each slide and edit slides. For more information, see the Building Slides topic.
  • Asset Panel. This section is where you can upload and review all the image and audio files available for use in the presentation you are building. For more information, see the Maintaining Assets topic.
The table below includes the terms commonly used for elements and tasks in the CCS Terms are listed in alphabetical order.
Term Description

Asset

An asset is the digital material used in a course, such as a text, image, audio, video, or multimedia file that you create in the CCS or outside the CCS. You can then load them into the CCS. Assets can enhance the quality of your presentations and serve as an efficient training tool for your learners. Typical examples of assets are listed below.

  • A .jpg image file
  • An .mp3 audio file
  • A .swf (Flash) file

Asset Panel

The Asset Panel displays at the bottom of the CCS. This section displays the assets that are available for you to use in a course. For more information, see the Maintaining Assets topic.

Canvas

The canvas refers to the slide as it displays to trainees. It is the area where the text and images that you add to a slide in the CCS display. This area is also known as the "stage."

Note: The canvas is 704 pixels (wide) x 396 pixels (high).

Container

A container is a building block in a slide and stores text, image, audio, and multimedia assets. It is also referred to as a "unit."

Content Block

A content block is a collection of assets and events. It is interchangeable with the term "slide."

Image

An image is a graphical resource in a slide. The Image icon denotes a graphic container in a slide.

Notes:

  • Use .jpg or .jpeg format (recommended) for photographic images that are not greater than 300 kilobytes per megapixel.
  • These files (.jpg or .jpeg) should have a resolution of 320 pixels x 240 pixels or less, saved at 80% quality level.
  • Use .gif format for non-photographic illustrations.
  • Do not use .png, .bmp, or .tiff file formats for image assets in the CCS.

Movie

A movie is a multimedia resource. The Movie icon denotes a multimedia container in a slide.

Seekbar

The seekbar displays on the Live Preview tab. This allows you to manually scroll through an animation, forward and backward, previewing the slide animation and replaying content as needed.

Skin

A skin is a "picture frame" around the content that can display your company's logo and colors.

Slide

A slide is a collection of assets and events. It is interchangeable with the term "content block."

There are two main types of slides: content slides and learning activity slides. Content slides display training content. Learning activity slides allow trainees to interact with the slide. These slides include click-the-image, drag-and-drop, and fill-in-the blank slides.

Slide Editor

The Slide Editor is the section of the CCS that allows you to edit slides and create content for new slides.

Sound

A sound is an audio container stored in .mp3 format. Sound files may contain music, sounds, or text narration. You may include multiple sound files in a single slide. The order of the images and text displayed on screen are driven by the .mp3 files. The Speaker icon denotes an audio container in a slide.

Text

Text represents the written content presented onscreen to trainees. The Text icon denotes a text container in a slide.

Title

The title is the name of the slide. This is the same as a page title, topic title, or section title. The Title icon denotes the title container in a slide.

Titles are simply used as labels that help trainers quickly identify the objective of a slide. They do not display in presentations.

Unit

A unit is a building block in a slide and stores audio and visual assets. It is also referred to as a "container."

Wait

A wait is a timed action that allows the slide to pause and “wait” for a specified period of time before continuing. Waits are used to synchronize the display of text and audio narration on screen. The Wait icon denotes a wait container in a slide.
