Add Statements with Correct Answers

In fill-in-the-blank learning activities, statement boxes with blanks represent questions for trainees. When viewing a fill-in-the-blank slide in an interactive presentation, trainees are presented with statements with blanks (representing questions) and value entries (representing possible answers). For example, a fill-in-the-blank slide could contain three statements with one blank each, the three correct answers, and the instructions: 'Complete each statement by dragging the correct answer onto it.' In this example, a trainee must drag the three correct answers onto the corresponding statement blanks.

  1. Open the fill-in-the-blank slide you want to add a new statement to (for instructions, see the View Slides topic).
  2. Click Statement in the Slide Editor toolbar.
A new statement box displays on the slide with the text, 'New Paragraph'.
  3. Double-click the new statement box.
    The Edit Statement window displays.
  4. On the Text tab, highlight the default text, 'New Paragraph', and enter the complete statement as you want it to display on the slide. Use the following steps to format the text and to add a sound to the statement box.

    • Font. All text displays in Arial, by default. Use the font drop-down list to select a different font for the text.
    • Font Size. All text displays in 14 point size, by default. Use the size drop-down list to select a different font size.
    • Bold. By default, all text appears in bold. If you want to display normal text, highlight the desired text and click the Bold (B) button to remove the bold attribute.
    • Color. All text is black, by default. You can click the Color button to change the text color. You can also create a custom color for the text in addition to the preset colors. Click OK after selecting a color.
    • Add Blank. To add a blank to the statement, highlight the word or words you want to designate as the fill-in-the-blank text and click Add Blank. This is the text that will be presented to trainees as a possible answer. The highlight text changes to blue, underlined text. This is a visual clue that it will appear as a blank on the slide.
    • Sound. To play a sound with the statement box, click the Select New button. If the sound file you want to play is listed in the Sound window, select it and click OK. If the sound file you want to play is not listed in the Sound window, click Upload New and browse to select the file. Once the file is listed in the Sound window, select it and click OK.
  5. Next, go to the Box Styles tab and type the appropriate information and click Save.
For more information about this tab, go to the Box Styles Tab topic.
  6. Click OK on the Edit Statement window.
The text you entered displays on the statement box and the answer appears in a new value box. Because an associate exists between the statement blank and the answer value, they are both highlighted in the same colored frame.
To increase the level of difficulty of the learning activity, you can present trainees with additional answers (see the Add Incorrect Answer Values topic for instructions).
