Configure an Organization Unit Administrator's Access

You want John Smith to be the administrator for organization unit A.

Configuring an organization unit administrator's permissions

  1. Add John as one of the administrators of organization unit A by editing the organization unit details. Go to People tab > Select the organization unit in the hierarchy > Click Edit > Add a user in the Organization Unit Administrators section.

  2. Add the Organization Unit Administrator permission to John's security role.

    This permission gives users access only to the organization units in which they are designated as administrators. If users do not have this permission, they cannot view information about or make changes to an organization unit.

  3. Add any of the other permissions that allows him to manage various aspects of the organization unit to John's security role.

    If you want John to be able to edit this unit’s assignments, give him the Manage Organization Unit Assignments permission.

    If you don’t want John to be able to add or remove trainees from this unit, do not give him the Manage Organization Unit Employees permission. If users do not have these permissions, they cannot view information about or make changes to an organization unit.

Overlapping Administrative Permissions

The permissions associated with the Org Unit Administrator, Org Unit Training Administrator, and Group Administrator roles allow these administrators to excuse/mark complete assignments that were assigned by a different admin with identical permissions. This is only available for trainees over whom the Org Unit/Group admin has control.

When an org unit/group admin creates an assignment but is not available or is no longer the admin of that org unit/group, another org unit/group admin for that org unit/group can excuse/mark complete the assignments for any trainees over whom they have control.

The org unit/group admin can also edit the assignment provided all trainees are within this admin’s org unit/group. This is true even if the system administrator created the assignment. If the org unit/group admin has control over at least one trainee, the admin can view the assignment details, but the Edit option is not shown.
